Book two, Chapter one...

Well Vienna and I are on our own! We've moved to Moab for a few months to get a fresh perspective on life, and I can finally say it is good to be home! The warmth of the sun has finally graced Moab with its presence, and has made all the difference. There is so much to do down here in the summer months, it will be perfect for Vienna and I to jump into outdoor activities.

Vienna has already taken advantage of the warmth, and water, by swimming every chance she gets. She loves the water! We hiked up to a waterfall a few days ago, and she lost her tennis ball in the fast moving creek. Her good Aunt later found the ball stuck down the creek a bit, so everything was fine again!

We've also started running in the morning, and take frequent walks in the evening. It is glorious to be away from the city life with smog hovering over every building. I forgot how much I miss the country! The air is so crisp and clean here, nature indeed at its best. Pictures to come soon!

Vienna has made friends with my parents indoor cat, a spunky, mischevious little fellow who they rescued from a tiny kitten last fall. He is a handsome silver tabby with the greenest eyes I have ever seen. His name is Amos. Amos and Vienna will play, sass, and play some more. If Vienna doesn't awknowledge Amos, then he will start teasing her by sprinting down the hall and back and swipe her nose. It really is quite adorable to watch them together.

Walking Adventures

I took Ronix and Vienna out for a run on Tuesday, it didn't last as long as I intended...but it was adventurous to say the least! First, about 20 feet after I let R and V off to run (in the undeveloped fields behind our house), I'm walking along, quite content, when all of a sudden I hear 3 shrieks followed by "woosh, woosh, woosh". I look over to my right and see Ronix running as fast as he can out of the field looking up in the air at a huge pheasant he about had for an early dinner. I'm pretty sure he almost caught this bird because as it was flying away, brown feathers (at least I think they were feathers...) were dropping from its tail. We never did find any feathers so who knows what it could have been...eek. It happened so fast there was no way I could have captured any pictures, but I sure wish I could have! Then as Vienna and I were searching for feathers, and Ronix was searching for his long lost dinner prize, we stumbled upon a calico cat, who startled Vienna who was sniffing the ground 2 feet away so badly she threw her tennis ball and jumped back about 10 feet. I have to admit the cat startled me as well. I had seen something there but assumed it was an old weathered pillow, until I looked up into a set of eyes!

We then proceeded on walking further to the area we normally go to where it's nice and grassy. On our way there, I opted to go on a different side of a ditch than I normally do, to stay away from a horse trailer that smelled strongly of horses, and also to keep an eye for these said horses. Ronix has often sassed my parents horses through the fence, so I don't trust him around them. We are walking along, Ronix and Vienna are playing with their tennis balls, when all of a sudden I realize Ronix is rolling. Rolling in something...dead...and bloody. Ugh. I tell him to leave it, and try to keep walking to get him to follow me. Meanwhile Ronix is just staring at me with a gleam in his eye that hints strongly of naughtiness, starts wagging his tail at super speed, and snaps up the something dead and awfully bloody and EATS IT!!! The whole time while just looking at me with that naughty "HAHA" look in his eyes. Now, I can say this is funny today, but Tuesday I just wanted to puke...I can't say I wanted to throw his tennis ball after that, no thank you. Not with grimy pieces of who knows what he just ate. Blah.

So we went home, and Ronix had a very thorough bath to get the patches of bloodiness, not to mention the smell. Wow! He listened very well though, he stepped in the bath all by himself while the water was running, and even stayed in there while I shut him in the room and went to get a cup to pour water on him. He knows when I'm serious I guess haha!

Today the weather is glorious, so I packed up a bag with a blanket, snack and water to go to the field to do some reading, except I forgot a book, so I focused on taking some pictures of the rascals instead. Of course, the first thing Ronix does, since he's clean and all, is find a giant mud puddle and soak for a while. Oye, I tell you these guys keep me on my toes! It was so nice to sit and relax in the sunshine. Vienna even sat in my lap and soaked up some rays with me. And yes, I do mean literally sitting in my lap. :) I tried to get a good picture, but my arms just weren't long enough.

Vienna goes to the vet

Vienna had a little vet visit this morning, and she now weighs around 70 lbs! She is still a little skinny girl though, so I'm sure she still has some room to grow! Normally she is a bit shy at the vet, but today she was shaking, and refused to go with the nurse to the back room. She even slipped out of her collar and came running like a torpedo back into the room and huddled behind me with her head sticking through my arms. I'm not sure why she was so frightened this time, but we finally got her in the back room to get her nails trimmed. She came back smiling and happy and ready to go home to big brother.

Vienna gets crazy excited when it snows. Sunday morning she thought it a good idea to come barreling back inside and jump on Ronix and I as we were cuddled in bed, and kept hopping on Ronix until he pulled himself out of bed. I kept telling Vienna "V, we aren't getting up right now, it's 5 am." I couldn't figure out why she was so excited and wanted to get up until a few hours later I discovered we had a few inches of snow on the ground. Silly girl!

The weather here is beautiful today! It could definitely stand to jump 20 degrees, but as long as the sun is shining I won't complain. I am on a mission to find pet safe plants to put in my backyard so I can have at least one part of it be nice enough to sit out on a sunny day and read. I was hoping to put a lilac bush in the back, but first I have to make sure it is safe. That is my mission today on my sunny day off, hopefully I can find some pretty ones! Suggestions are welcome! :) Happy planting! (Or at least happy plant finding until it's time to plant!)

My new alarm clock

So the other morning I wake up to some really loud snoring. Mark had already gone to work, so imagine my confusion of this noise! I have heard Roan or V snore before, but very, very softly. I open my eyes, and turn my head to the right and Vienna's nose is an inch away from my face. She is stretched out like Gumby on her back, legs all a dangle, head placed perfectly on my pillow turned so she's almost touching me, and sporting the biggest grin I have ever seen. All the while snoring like a giant, sound asleep. I wish I had my camera or phone, or better yet-the flip-to capture this! It was so funny. She was out like a light too, and happy as a clam.

So since I don't have evidence of this, I'll post other cute sleeping pics of R and V.

Edited to add: I have a lot of sleeping pics apparently because these are only from the beginning days of V!

I believe this one is a close replica of her position, only 50 pound bigger! :)

Suckling weims

I know there are many weims out there that suckle, my question is what do they suckle on? Vienna suckles on any of her fuzzy soft toys, especially her Valentine puppy from last year. She hates it when Ronix has it and doesn't let him keep it for very long. He is a boy, you know, so fluffies always get ripped. ;)

Ronix used to suckle when he was a puppy, on blankets, typically the blanket we use to sleep in...then he grew out of it. I couldn't say I minded that, since his suckling spots always ended up in holes! Not to mention trying to go to sleep then POW, your foot is in a precarious wet spot. Now Ronix has gotten back into suckling, not sure why, but he still only likes to suckle on the blanket we are actually using on the bed, couch or wherever. I have been thinking of buying a "baby blanket" to see if he will just use that...oh the trickery! He gives me such glares whenever I catch him suckling and tell him to stop. Goodness these weims sure have attitude!

On a different note, we went to the dog park yesterday. It was the first time Vienna has gone in a long while since she had her heat, and boy did they get muddy! I made the mistake of wearing ballet flats because it was so unusually warm yesterday, but I forgot the dog park is a gully right before a canyon. It was much cooler and muddy, and even still had snow/ice! Luckily we made it without falling, phew.

An overdue update of my two weimaroo's

Wow! It has been ages since I have written on here, I need to be better. I couldn't even remember my sign in info...oops!

Well we have officially had our Miss Vienna for over a year now, and it has been the best adventure yet! I absolutely love her, she is just the sweetest girl ever. I'm a bit smitten... :) Vienna went into heat in January, and while I was very unprepared for it to start (even though I suspected she was going to any time-I think I was in denial- haha) it all went very smoothly. I got her a pair of little britches and she loved them! Whenever we would take them off for her to go outside, she would come running back in to you to put them back on! It was so cute. I think she felt like a little diva. She would literally come up to you, then turn around and look back at you with a gigantic grin on her face and her tail swooshing back and forth, back and forth. Vienna handled it like a champ. She really mellowed out a ton, and became even more cuddly; and who would complain about more Vienna cuddles?! Not me! :)

Ronix has been such a good boy too. He used to run away at the end of off leash play time once he saw his harness come out, but now he just comes up to us to put it on. I even gave him a bath yesterday and he willingly, but very forlornly, stepped into the bath with water in it BY HIMSELF!!!! Such a good boy he is! I wish I had my camera, it was really so cute. He just wanted to listen to his Mom, but you could tell he did not want to be in the bath.

I still can't believe it's been a year since bringing little miss V home. It has been so fun to watch Ronix and Vienna bond, wrestle, pout, play and antagonize the other. I really feel quite lucky to have such amazing weims as these two, they are truly our heart dogs. They listen so well (most of the time-haha) and bring such happiness to our home. Every time we come home, they are so excited to see us. Vienna is always watching out the front window, then runs to the door as soon as she spots us coming. Once we come into the house, she is prancing around, tapping her paws, giddy as can be. She always has to pick up something in her mouth to carry around the house for the next 10 minutes until she calms down. It is so adorable! Ronix will come greet us, and usually gets wound up by Vienna's reaction so they are both hopping around the house. Unless it is past 10, then he will come greet us and the next thing we know he has put himself to bed, again. These two make me smile constantly!

Our weekend getaway..

We went to Moab this past weekend, and the dogs absolutely had a blast! Ronix and Vienna had nonstop running for about 3 days! Let's just say they slept for about a day straight once we left :) Tired weims are good weims right?!

Vienna had her first big experience with cactus, no major run ins, but she would try to eat a few dead pieces...silly girl. She also saw her first horses up close, and she was great at sitting back and observing them...unlike her brother who likes to sass the horses through the fence...oye.

Vienna is such a jumper, leaper, hopper girl, I love it! When we got up to the lake in the mountains, she was instantly just leaping back and forth across a little stream (brook, creek...whatever you want to call it!) She also figured out how to jump up to a tailgate with such ease and grace. She makes all this jumping look so effortless! Ronix liked to jump across the stream as well, but he also loved to walk across the log like we humans use. It was priceless!

Ronix also had a few lessons of sit/stay while Mark was fishing...he thinks the line is his personal retrieve toy so it was good to get him to listen. Mark is also starting to train for bird hunting...so far so good! Ronix is very into anything you throw, especially if it's in water. He's so funny, if you don't throw anything for a while, he'll just get in the lake and swim for 5 minutes just circling around. I often get the image of Dora from "Finding Nemo" singing "just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming, swimming..." Ha ha!

It was a blast to do so many outdoor activities and have the dogs with us. Friday night we grilled steaks and there wasn't one weimy nose with a drooly mouth hovering anywhere near! (gasp) They were too tired to move. :D I did of course take a ton of pictures, and some turned out so well with the lighting. Enjoy!

Oh, Vienna is now almost 7 months old and 55 pounds. Ronix will be 2 in August and he is 70 pounds.

Our weimy weekend

We had a very weimy weekend. We got to watch Nina, Ronix's sister, and they had a blast. Vienna did get a little sad at times since sometimes the big dogs wouldn't let her play, so that just means she got extra snuggles and playtime with us :) She does have great pouty expressions though! Warning: picture overload, as always. Enjoy!

Vienna: From Cali to Utah

This is our little Vienna, before we brought her home. She is about 23 days old here. So tiny!

Here she is at the airport, 8 weeks old, bravely waiting for our flight home.

I made sure to get a picture of her in her travel carrier because I knew I would never believe she actually fit in it! She liked to lay in it, I think she felt safe. She soon preferred the BIG crate though :)

I don't know if you can tell, but if you notice how tight of a ball Ronix is in, he was trying to stay as far away from the "little new thing". I think his expression reveals his concerns. ;)

I could go on and on and on posting pictures, but, I figured I would try to keep it reasonable ;) I flew out to California on the 29th of January 2010, and brought Vienna home January 30th. She was exactly 8 weeks old that weekend. The first few days she was so mellow and sweet. She then started coming out of her mellow state and letting her personality out, and was quite the little sassafrass. We had thought we liked the name Violet, but changed it to Vienna after seeing more of her cute personality. She slept the entire flight and never made one peep. She did so well! I probably had more anxiety than she did-it was a small plane on the way home. She was timid and a little scared of Ronix at first because he was a little strange with his weimy zoomies, but she soon learned how to sass back. It was so cute to watch her march up and grab whatever toy Ronix had taken from her. She would literally tell him what's up, she is a very vocal puppy! Next will be 12 week pictures :)

Annoucing...

Well we did it. We got another Weim puppy, but this time around we went with a Long Haired Weimaraner :) She is sooooo adorable, and is such a little sassy shadow. Don't worry, pictures to follow soon. I must get the hard drive from my house first. Her name is Vienna, which means "from wine country." As we got her from California, we thought it was very fitting. I went out to California to pick our our newest addition at the beginning of February, and bring her home, and it was a tough job! All of the puppies were soo cute, and each had their own individual traits. I ended up choosing Vienna (aka little red girl) because she was the one that stood out to us in photos, and also because I loved how much she would observe. And of course I loved the puppy kisses and cuddles :) Vienna weighed about 14 lbs when I brought her home, and at 17 weeks she is up to about 35 lbs! She's growing like a weed, pretty soon I won't be able to just pick her up anymore.

Ronix wasn't sure what to think of her for the first few days. I'm not sure he knew what she was. They are pretty thick now, very true brothers and sisters (sometimes I'm not so sure that's a good thing.) I'm trying to get it through their heads that I like their ears, so no decorative "punctures" are needed, and I'd prefer they not bite each others face as they will need their eyes...little scoundrels they are! The cutest thing is when they cuddle though. Although it's also pretty cute when Vienna gets on the couch so she can really pounce on big brother while he's laying down he he he. Such a sneaky one.

BBQ time!

This weekend we went to a doggie bbq at a friends house. It was a lot of fun. There were probably 10 dogs and 25 people or so. The dogs all got along great for the most part, and it was nice to hang out and relax while the dogs wore each other out. :)

The best part was Ronix and Nina were reunited again, and you could definitely tell they hadn't seen each other in a while! Talk about hyperness!! This was after the hours of nonstop running, wrestling, tug-a-war games...

Ronix's First Birthday!

Happy Birthday Ronix!!! (August 2, 2008)

You survived your first year of life! Woo hoo! I am 100% confident your puppy years are NOT behind you though. I can imagine we have many more fun stories and hyper phases to encounter with you yet. :) I can't wait.

We went backpacking in the Uintah's over the weekend, and Ronix loved it. He also loved to act even MORE human (if possible) and followed us across narrow logs, and would never sit on the ground, instead he'd always sit next to us on the logs. It was so cute!

This waterfall was beautiful. It appears to be a small one, but we hiked up it and it just kept going, and the scenery was breath taking.

This was his first real hiking and camping experience, and he kept his guard up. He was on high alert this whole trip. It was so cool to see his hunting abilities shine through; he has an amazing nose!

I love when his lips are stuck in his teeth. I was told this means they (dogs) are unsure of something. I wouldn't doubt it, he perked up at any different sound. I'm sure all the smells were pretty new to him too.

Here Ronix is running like a crazy, wild dog. He was so funny, I wish I would have got it on the flip to post. He was running the fastest I've seen him run, in circles, around me, straight at me; just absolutely loving the freedom and fresh air.

Where's Ronix? Hmm...is he that blur of gray?

And yes, Ronix was in his idea of doggy heaven. Wood was everywhere. I never did get my good marshmellow stick. Every one I found was suddenly between the chomping, slobbery jaws of Ronix who was thinking, "mmm give me that stick! my stick! mine mine mine! i'll race ya...I win!"

He is such a camera dog. It was cool to see him at high alert though.

Another "where's Ronix" one. I love the lighting in this one; it brings out the meaning of their nickname The Gray Ghost...

Taking a breather from his big doggie pack. Yes, Ronix carries his own food and water, and he's good at it too! We didn't really have to train him on this, we just put it on and he's off. He even comes to you to put it on; it's great!

Here he is with the big pack on. Still a bit big for him yet; it gets a little lopsided. I swear he likes it thought, he seems so happy when we're out and about.

All in all I think Ronix had a good first birthday. He got to go swimming, running, swimming, chewed some sticks, swimming, chewed some sticks, swiming and I think a little sleeping was in there somewhere ;)

At the lake...

Ronix is hilarious to watch bounding and leaping through the shallow waters on the shoreline.

If you haven't figured it out yet, a tennis ball is gold at the beach. If you don't throw it for him, he'll just play with it like a cat would a mouse on the sandy beach.

Such a happy puppy dog! He loves the water. It is a perfect temperature this year, already about 74 degrees! Pretty nice for Bear Lake! :)

So until I get some new pictures, I'm afraid there just won't be any pictures...Gasp! What?! Just kidding, just kidding, don't have a fit! I'll just keep throwing some old ones up here. Hopefully we'll get some funny footage of Ronix at the lake. We're more prepared with water toys now, the entertainment will last for hours.

On a side note, an 11 month old Weim is up for sale on KSL and we're trying to figure out if it is a sibling of Ronix. They do look a little similar. However, I decided it would be very bad knowledge to find out if she IS related because we both would LOVE to get a litter mate to keep Ronix company...and in our current housing situation it simply wouldn't work to get another Weim.

:( Hopefully some day in the somewhat near future.

Anyway, I'll stop my rambling and post the pictures, because what's a blog about a dog without pictures? ;)

This is King Ronix in his throne. He has claimed this as his favorite spot, and always manages to wake up if you move out of it so he can steal it.

A classic example of a road trip with Ronix. He still thinks he is a lap sized dog, and I do admit I still let him sometimes. He always finds a way to squirm as close as possible without technically being considered in the front. Ha ha. Trust me, the positions he ends up in to accomplish this do NOT look comfortable!

I love this picture! If you look closely you will know why! He looks like a deer; none of his paws are on the ground. It never fails to make me laugh.

Mark may not like being on my blog, so we just won't tell him and see if he notices, because this picture is so cute!

We were lucky Pirate tolerated Ronix's antics! He was very passive with him, even though he was getting choked and pulled around by a pup.

He loved the dirt chips, it was funny to watch him play and eat them.

I don't think this one needs an explanation.
Ha ha.

At the beach...

I wish my camera had been working this past weekend, I missed a lot of great pictures at Bear Lake. The weather finally permitted us to have a beach day, and we played on the lake for hours. Ronix went crazy when we got to the water; he was like a little kid trying to push the parent in. He kept jumping on me and was so excited, it was fun just to watch him.

The lake is so shallow on the west side you can touch for ages, and it was hilarious to watch Ronix bunny hopping/running through the water, chasing his ball nonstop for five hours. I think the only time he left his tennis ball was when he was busy finding food on the beach, or grabbing hotdogs from the kids ha ha. We even used his lifejacket, which works quite well. he loved getting up on the huge island tube with us and jumping off to retrieve his beloved ball. It definitely paid off because he slept like a log on the way home, that night, and all through the next day. He wouldn't even budge to go outside, which is pretty crazy for him.

Anyway, here are some older pictures of Ronx on the beach in the snow (which also makes him soo hyper). He loved to catch snowballs instead of tennis balls... I'll try to get a good video of Ronix at the beach next time, it is absolutely hilarious to see him go wild.

9 months ago ...

Wow, time has flown by. We've had Ronix for 9 months now and I can't believe he ever used to be as small as he is in these pictures. Craziness! It's been so fun raising a puppy...although we're pretty certain he's part human and cat ha ha.

This was taken when we first brought Ronix home. He's about 8-9 weeks old here, and already full of mischeviousness as you can see since he is trying to eat my camera string.

He was so full of energy, and always wanted to play, as this picture shows quite well. I am so glad those puppy teeth are gone! They are soo sharp. He did leave some souvenir marks in my phone though, it is kinda cute.

This is where Ronix got the nickname Batty from my sister. There are a couple pictures that are hilarious with his ears flying in the air. With his teeth showing he does look a little bat like ha ha. He's about 9-10 wks in these pics.

He loved playing with the big dogs right from the start, it was pretty funny to watch him try to keep up with a 90 lb German Shepard.

He's about 11 weeks in this picture where he's gnawing on a deer leg...yuck! Nobody would take the deer leg away until I got a picture of it, since the guys thought it was hilarious. As you've probably guessed, we were hunting this weekend, and so the dogs kept bringing back the discards...it was not enjoyable ha ha.

The moose get quite close in Bear Lake, and I don't think Ronix could figure out what it was. I love the stripe of hair standing on end that goes all the way down his back.

Weekend in Moab

This weekend Ronix and I went to Moab (I being Ronixs' Mom). We had a lot of fun; I don't think Ronix could get enough of the lawn either-he loved to roll in it, especially the shady spots. It was fairly stormy, as it has been everywhere lately, but the clouds were beautiful. The extra rain has really made the flowers exuberant; it was very bright and lively for this time of year.

Ronix was nearly killed within the first 5 minutes of being in Moab .. my parent's have two horses and a mule, that are immune to their dog, but have absolutely zero tolerance for new dogs. Especially the mule. Ronix gets extremely excited around new things, especially the horses, and somehow managed to sneak in with the horses. The mule immediately started to get into attack mode, which sent Ronix into defense mode. His hair was standing on end, teeth bared and growling and tail tucked as far as it could go. I was just walking out of the house when I heard Ronix, and my Mom also realized what was happening, and in the nick of time started yelling and waving her arms at Little John, the mule. Luckily she was in there fast, and rescued Ronix .. otherwise there could have been a very unhappy ending, as the mule was getting ready to kick! Scary scary. At least that taught him a lesson--not to mess with animals bigger than him!

I think Ronix is so used to getting on rocks and posing/waiting for us to say the "break" command, that he does it a lot on his own. I didn't tell him to do this, my sister pointed out the coolness so of course I grabbed my camera ha ha. It is impressive though, he was quite the guard dog while down there. There has been a black bear visiting the area for the past week or so, and that evening we had a fire, and he was very alert, very anxious and protective. I was impressed! We figured there must be something out there .. like the bear!

My sister and I went up into the mountains to find a branch for my writing project, and she brought her German Shepard, Pirate. Ronix has played with Pirate ever since he was knee high to a grasshopper ... err..great dane. ha ha. The mountains were beautiful with lively wild irises everywhere. This is Nina, my sister. We have so much fun together! I'm not sure what she's doing in this picture, I think she's maybe about to pounce!

We love, love, LOVE to share sticks. We could chase eachother around ALL day just to get the stick back, so usually we just agree to share and chew each end. Delicious!

These big ones are so much fun! It takes two to lift the big guys, and people always have to watch out so we don't accidentally knock them over! (but it is kinda funny to watch them jump outta the way :P)

We're iron clad when it comes to sticks, we don't like to give them up! .. Except maybe for a treat :)

Looking for our stick or ball, we must have dropped it somewhere in the grass!

Dang, she got the stick.

We also love the water, although we're still pretty new at swimming.

More stick sharing, we never give up!

Meet Ronix!

Hi! My name is Ronix and I'm almost 10 months old! My Mom and Dad like to call me Houdini sometimes because I can get out of anything in seconds! So I guess you could say that's my middle name. In this picture we were hiking up Ensign trail. I had a lot of fun, but man does that sun get hot! I love to play that silly game where you throw the ball and I bring it back .. over and over and over! I also like to pose in my pointing (hunting) position while I wait for you to throw the ball. It really tricks some people! My weakness are sticks .. big sticks especially. Like tree branch big. I love to pull those around and try to take people out with them, me and my doggie buddies get a kick out of it! Most of all though I love to CHEW the sticks! Be warned- if you throw a stick for me I won't bring it back! :) Here are a few of my favorite pointing pictures!

My Mom loves taking pictures of me so I try to switch things up for her so she stays busy. My parents take me on awesome walks almost every day! It's one of my favorite things! They pretty much let me do everything with them. Car rides are so cool, especially when I get to stick my head out the window! Wooooooo! Marley and Me is a great movie, my parents just hope I don't pick up any bad ideas from watching Marley ha ha! :) Woo hoo almost time for a walk! I'm out!
